Experimenting with magnets

This is a photo documentation of two boys aged two constructing with magnets... problem solving, creating and exploring.... just in a day's work...

balancing on a small ledge on the windowsill... at first it fell down many times as he built just upwards... but then he tested building out and giving the blocks more of a foundation...

and as he practised and got used to the feel of constructing and balancing he became more confident and building upwards became easier...

and then there was time to experiment with colour... moving slowly from one colour to the next to see how it changed the view outside... side to side slowly many times...

then the building to a new turn... building on the window sill... but still there was not much room - and experimenting with pieces that stuck out started...

then there were two... and the contruction was then on the table (without legs) - but even here they ran out of space... and did not give up with their long line but aimed to see how far this would work...
it DID actually hold 2 magnets sticking out over nothingness... but after that it just collapsed...

after a few attempts to make the line longer the boys came up with a new strategy... have I mentioned yet that these boys are two years old... I was a mere observer and they solved all their own construction dilemmas...

then it was time to build a city... this time on a mat which offered more construction space...

and city walls needed to be explored too
